We are an organization of retired seniors who wish to serve our community. Our mission is to become the “eyes and ears” of the community and assist the San Diego Police Department on many different assignments.
Qualifications are that you must possess a valid driver’s license, pass a background check, be 50 years or older and complete a 40-hour SDPD Academy.
You will learn the personal and professional standards of the SDPD. You will be trained to use the SDPD radio, traffic control and other assignments. You will need to sign up to patrol 3 times per month.
A few of the everyday duties of RSVP are as follow:
Check on shut-ins to insure they are doing okay; this program is called YANA (You Are Not Alone).
Complete Vacation House checks for people who are away from home. This is done to check the home and inspect the outside for any intrusions.
RSVP also checks all the community parks in order to check the safety of the families who are enjoying them.
Write Disabled Parking citations when a car is parked in a marked space without a placard.
School patrols are done to make sure all children are safe getting to and from school.
Banks are also checked to insure safety of the patrons and bank staff.
RSVP also does special projects when requested by SDPD, such as assist in emergency situations like the Wild Fires, search for missing children and elders, and anything else that may be needed.
We are in need of more volunteers, please contact the Police Storefront on Mira Mesa Blvd, or call 858.538.8156.
